Sedation dentistry is a technique used by cosmetic and restorative dentists to create a pleasant experience for patients who are nervous about having dental treatment done. Sedation medicine allows you to relax and endure a painless surgery while you remember little or nothing once the procedure is completed. A dentist will either use oral sedation or the inhalation sedation method. In both cases, medication will put you in a profoundly calm, dream-like condition. You may be awake during the process so that you can respond to commands, but you will not experience any pain or fear.
Hekmat Family Dental Clinic is known for providing sedation dentistry Rancho Bernaro. Dr. Reza Hekmat is a dentist since 1994 serving in San Diego. His experience in sedation dentistry and dental care makes him an expert in various treatment methods. The clinic uses an oral and inhalation sedation process, which is convenient and safe.
Types of sedation Process
There are three types of sedation processes used in sedation dentistry 4S Ranch. These three are commonly used by most dental clinics –
Oral Sedation
Oral sedation is achieved by taking a pill. Depending on the dose, you may feel mild to moderately sedated. You may not pass out by taking oral sedation, but it may cause you to doze off in the dental chair. You’ll understand what’s going on and will be able to interact with your doctor and other staff, but you might not remember much about the surgery later. It is better to bring someone to your appointment to take you home.
Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous oxide or Laughing gas, often known as inhalation anesthetic, provides gentle but efficient dental sedation. A mixture of gas and oxygen is inhaled through a mask worn over the nose, which is closely monitored by your sedation dentist Rancho Bernaro. You’ll remain alert and responsive, yet you’ll be deeply relaxed and fearless. The effects wear off fast after the mask is removed, making it safe to drive home.
IV Sedation
IV sedation is the best alternative, for patients who want to sleep through the surgery. IV sedation is administered by a board-certified medical professional who can closely monitor you throughout the surgery. The effects of IV sedation can last for the rest of the day. Bring along someone to drive you home and stay with you for a few hours. You’ll have trouble caring for yourself, so having someone to help you can make you feel a lot better.
Expectation from Sedation Dentistry
After receiving any sedation, your sedation dentist 4S Ranch will advise you to arrive at comfortable clothing to the clinic. If you’re getting IV or oral sedation, your doctor may advise you to fast for 6 to 12 hours before your treatment.
You’ll need a friend or family to drive you to and from the dentist’s office, as most types of sedation processes can impair your driving capacity. Depending on the treatment you had, your doctor may advise you to eat a small meal or two, or he or she may supply you with a list of things that you should eat or avoid for some time.
Sedation dentistry may be ideal for you if you have a high level of dental anxiety, a poor pain tolerance, difficulty to sit still for lengthy periods, highly sensitive teeth, or require extensive dental work. Feel free to speak with one of the skilled, certified dentists, if you have any queries regarding how safe or necessary sedation dentistry is for you.
